The mayor, Manu Lourenzo, and the Councilor for Sports, Gonzalo Outeiro, received the athlete at the municipal facilities. There, they presented him with an institutional recognition for his career and for taking the name of Soutomaior to the highest sporting level.
Mateo Sobral, who competes in Celta's youth category and this season is playing with Celta Fortuna, was crowned champion of the UEFA Friendship Cup 2026 in Switzerland after defeating England 0-2 in the final held in Nyon.
“"Mateo is an example of talent, effort, and perseverance. His successes are also a joy for Soutomaior, because he carries the name of our town hall to international sports venues and shows that, with hard work and enthusiasm, one can go very far."
The mayor highlighted the pride the municipality feels in having an athlete who is taking important steps in his career and wished him luck in his upcoming sporting challenges. He also emphasized the importance of recognizing the work and dedication of the young people in the municipality who excel in their disciplines.
With this tribute, Soutomaior Town Hall wishes to convey Mateo Sobral the recognition and support of the residents and to highlight a career that continues to achieve success in national and international grassroots football.
