The Xunta de Galicia will begin next Monday, October 26, the sample collection for the new phase of the Xenoma Galicia project in the health area of Pontevedra and O Salnés.

Invited individuals from the O Salnés health district can attend, between October 26 and 29, the Hospital Público do Salnés. In the Pontevedra health district, sample collection will take place at the Hospital Público de Montecelo, between November 2 and 19.
The appointment for sample extraction, with prior booking, will be from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Healthcare personnel will inform participants about the entire process. Fasting is not required.
For this new collection, 2,858 invitations have been sent: 2,156 for Pontevedra and 702 for O Salnés. The objective is to achieve the participation of 571 people, 431 from Pontevedra and 140 from O Salnés.
The Xenoma Galicia project, with an investment of 20 million euros from the Xunta, aims to collect the DNA of 400,000 Galicians to identify genes related to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, Lynch syndrome, and familial hypercholesterolemia.
To date, 3,112 biological samples have been analyzed. The analysis of the 1,279 samples from phase 1 has identified 25 additional positive cases for the screened pathologies: 14 for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, 2 for Lynch syndrome, and 9 for familial hypercholesterolemia.
In total, 53 positives have been detected so far: 19 from the blood pilot, 9 from the saliva pilot, and 25 from phase 1. Of these, 30 are for breast and ovarian cancer, 7 for Lynch Syndrome, 1 positive for both, and 15 for familial hypercholesterolemia.
Coordinated by the Consellería de Sanidade and directed by researchers from the Fundación Pública Galega de Medicina Xenómica María Brión and Ángel Carracedo, the project will contribute to the design of new prevention and early detection programs.
