The Xunta de Galicia has notified Vigo City Council and the company Aqualia of the results from water samples collected on October 13 in the Quintián-Vigo Supply Zone, which confirm the presence of heavy metals.

New samples collected by Public Health pharmaceutical inspectors confirm the presence of lead, arsenic, and iron in several points of the supply network, exceeding established limits. The analyses, conducted at four different points outside the IES Beade educational center, indicate a high concentration in municipal connections in that area.
The Territorial Department of the Ministry of Health has communicated the results to both the City Council and the concessionaire, stating that the "repeated incidents pose a risk to health, necessitating the restriction of water consumption in the affected area." The concessionaire has 24 hours to submit a proposal regarding water consumption.
Health authorities also request an "exhaustive investigation" to identify the affected area, assess the risk, and rectify the parametric non-compliance. The actions to be taken and their justification must be communicated to the Territorial Department within one week.
As far back as last February, a visit by Education technicians and the IES Beade management, along with a representative from the supply company, confirmed that all water consumption pipes within the center are made of polyethylene, suggesting that the lead presence originates from external connections.
