The planned actions, which will be progressively implemented over the coming months, range from access to information on schedules and routes to payment methods, route organization, and the appearance of bus stops.
One of the main measures will be the implementation of a new exploitation support system (SAE) that will allow for the renewal of bus equipment and advance towards more complete and accessible information. This will enable the development of a mobile application and a website with real-time information on bus locations, arrival times, and routes. Payment by debit or credit card will also be enabled, and integration with the Xunta de Galicia's MOVETE card will be facilitated. Furthermore, the integration of Lugo's urban bus network into Google Maps is planned.
The agreement also includes the renovation of information systems at bus stops, where currently only 8 out of 24 existing screens are functional, and an image update for poles and shelters. Alternatives will also be studied to optimize routes, adapting them to the city's needs, such as frequency improvements or access to the Hula hospital and the municipal cemetery.
Demands from workers are also included, such as ensuring the availability of restrooms for drivers on all routes. Work is also underway on redesigning several lines to serve neighborhood requests, such as access to the hospital or the cemetery.
Within the framework of the agreement with the Provincial Association of Taxi Drivers, the local government will address on October 21 the expansion of the on-demand taxi service, currently provided in the parishes of Carballido and Labio. The objective is to cover 100% of the territory, starting with the 13 parishes closest to the city that do not have bus service: Pedreda, Tirimol, Meilán, Adai, Orbazai, Piugos, Cuiña, San Mamede, San Xoán do Alto, O Veral, Esperante, Ombreiro, and Saa. The increase in licenses will also be discussed at the meeting.
