The mayor of Valdoviño, Alberto González, has formally requested a meeting with the Minister of Education, Román Rodríguez, to once again convey the municipality's demands in educational matters. The request was made shortly after it became known that the Galician government's budget proposal for 2027 includes an allocation for the improvement of the CPI of Atios, a project the council has been requesting for years, while overlooking the unanimous demand for the construction of a high school in the town.
The local government views positively the inclusion of a 1.51 million euro budget for the "Comprehensive Renovation of the Building" of the CPI of Atios, which includes upgrading the thermal envelope, roof, windows, and boiler. This action addresses a long-standing request that the City Council has made in numerous meetings with ministry representatives.
However, the local government emphasizes that this action only partially meets the council's demands and will "continue to push" for the Xunta to "stop ignoring the sentiment of all Valdoviño residents." The municipal corporation had already approved a motion in April 2025 to demand the establishment of a high school offering basic vocational training (FP), citing the population growth and the constant increase in enrollment at local educational centers.
The City Council hopes that the minister will accept the meeting request or the invitation to visit the municipality and see its educational needs firsthand. It is noted that the Xunta's 2027 budget proposal is still in the parliamentary processing phase and is therefore open to potential changes.
