Students from the Ulla-Umia Employment Workshop in Valga participated this week in a training session on occupational risk prevention, led by Diego Castro, a technician from the Galician Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (ISSGA).

During the session, Diego Castro explained the role of the ISSGA in risk prevention within the forestry sector, emphasizing the importance of adopting safe practices for work in mountainous areas. He also presented the informational materials developed by the entity for the sector, including technical guides and information on mandatory and recommended personal protective equipment (PPE) for various job roles such as chainsaw operators, high-pruning workers, brush cutter operators, forestry laborers, machine operators, and transporters.
The ISSGA technician placed particular emphasis on the necessity of always consulting the Risk Assessment for each position, adhering to work procedures, respecting the equipment's lifespan, and choosing comfortable and ergonomic PPE.
Through this training, the Ulla-Umia Employment Workshop reinforces its commitment to safety, aiming for apprentices to acquire not only technical forestry skills but also fundamental knowledge for self-protection at work.
