The Vigo School of Industrial Engineering began its 50th-anniversary celebrations this Tuesday with a radio program in its lobby, recalling its trajectory and contribution to the city's development.

The current director of the school, Professor José Fariña, explained that October 20, 1976, was the first day of teaching activity for the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineers of Vigo, then part of the University of Santiago de Compostela. The conversation also included the school's first director, former rector Luis Espada, along with former directors José Cidrás and Juan Pardo, who recalled historical episodes, including the 2011 merger of the former schools.
On Saturday, the events will continue with an institutional gathering under the slogan ‘Born, lived, the future to come’. The day will begin at 10:45 AM with the reception of attendees, an exhibition of historical class photos and photographs, and spaces for companies and networking.
Starting at 11:00 AM, director José Fariña and the rector of the University of Vigo, Carmen García Mateo, will open the event, which will include a round table with retired faculty and company executives, and a presentation on industry, talent, and innovation.
At 12:30 PM, the 50th-anniversary book will be presented, prepared by the University of Vigo's Alumni Observatory and presented by its director, Professor Luis Espada, which chronicles half a century of Industrial Engineering studies.
Additionally, the school's city campus will host, starting Thursday the 29th at 7:30 PM, an exhibition on El Destornillo, the former student festival of the School of Industrial Experts initiated in 1954, under the slogan Against everything, because why not.
