An innovation project from the Faculty of Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Vigo aims to transform Galician traditional dance into an educational resource through the creation of didactic audiovisual pills, involving nearly 150 students.

The initiative, led by professor Rocío Carballo, combines training and practical sessions with the generation of audiovisual materials that can be used in both university teaching and compulsory education. The goal is for future teachers to learn, practice, and integrate Galician traditional dance into classrooms as a motor, expressive, cultural, and inclusive resource.
This project, selected in the faculty's educational innovation call, involves an interdisciplinary team of seven researchers from the center and four external collaborators. It seeks to promote greater visibility of Galician traditional culture as an educational content and a tool for corporal expression, enhancing students' competencies in corporal expression, cooperative work, and heritage education.
The methodology is active, participatory, and experiential, where students learn by dancing and collaborating in the creation of audiovisual materials. The project, titled Galician Traditional Dance in Initial Teacher Training: A Playful and Audiovisual Proposal from Physical Education, began with sessions taught by secondary school teacher Uxío Leira, a specialist in the field.
Audiovisual production is a central element, using multi-camera recording and a drone to capture explanations, movements, and student interactions. Short didactic videos are generated, combining explanations, practical demonstrations, cultural references, and educational use proposals.
These pills, available on UVigo TV, will serve as didactic support material in the second phase of the project, which is being developed this semester with students from the Degree in Primary Education. It will include practical training and a conference to reflect on the educational possibilities of Galician traditional dance.
The project will be completed with an evaluation to assess the impact of the experience on the interest, knowledge, and perceived competence of the participating students.
