The research group LaserON at the University of Vigo, part of Cintecx, has published the book Laser Based Manufacturing, released by CRC Press, which compiles contributions from international researchers on laser technologies applied to manufacturing.
The volume, offering an updated overview of laser-based manufacturing technologies, was edited by seven researchers associated with the LaserON group: Juan Pou, Fernando Lusquiños, Mohamed Boutinguiza, Félix Quintero, Antonio Riveiro, Rafael Comesaña, and Jesús del Val. This publication stems from over 30 years of the group's accumulated scientific experience and its close collaboration with leading international institutions such as the Fraunhofer Institute (Germany), Laser Zentrum Hannover (Germany), the Advanced Manufacturing Research Center at the University of Sheffield (United Kingdom), Ruhr University Bochum (Germany), KU Leuven (Belgium), the University of Barcelona, and Leibniz University (Germany).
Juan Pou, coordinator of LaserON, explains that the book aims to consolidate the fundamentals of the main laser manufacturing technologies and recent advancements, also reflecting the group's international scientific collaborations.
Laser Based Manufacturing spans 15 chapters, detailing from the physical principles of laser-material interaction to current industrial technologies like cutting, welding, surface coating, additive manufacturing, and marking. It also explores advanced applications such as two-photon absorption polymerization, laser-induced material transfer, nanofiber fabrication, and nanoparticle synthesis, covering processes from conventional industrial manufacturing to micro- and nanotechnology.
The work also includes chapters on process modeling, the latest technological advancements, and sustainability in the implementation of new manufacturing technologies. It is aimed at researchers, professionals, and engineering students, serving as a reference that combines scientific fundamentals with industrial applications.
