The exhibition, located on the first floor of the Edificio de Ferro and free to enter, aims to highlight women's narratives about their migratory experiences and social transformation through art. It is curated by researchers Iria Vázquez Silva and Alicia González Barreiro, from the Group of Studies in Social Work, Research and Transfer (Gets-it) at the University of Vigo.
The project, initially funded by the Institute for Women and developed by the research collective Mulleres á Fronte, presents the results of research and artistic creation. The exhibition at the Ourense campus is supported by the Vice-Rectorate for Research of the University of Vigo.
'Gender and Cape Verdean Migrations' features images from family albums and photographs by Cape Verdean women and their descendants residing in Bembibre (Castilla y León) and Burela (Galicia). Through photography workshops, participants captured scenes of their daily lives and explored the relationships between care and work.
The photographs, accompanied by texts from the protagonists themselves, offer a unique perspective on the evolution of care patterns across generations and family life cycles. The organization expresses gratitude to the Amilcar Cabral Cultural Association and the Ayuntamiento de Bembibre.
