Filmmaker Candela Sotos is guiding ten students from the Pontevedra campus in a workshop exploring memory through the metaphor of the Xunqueira de Alba, with final results to be presented in December.

Campus Crea and Novos Cinemas are promoting a film workshop where filmmaker Candela Sotos is encouraging ten students to work on the theme of memory, using the Xunqueira de Alba as a conceptual starting point. Participants, from the faculties of Communication, Fine Arts, and Design, explore the idea of a wetland as a transitional space for mixing materials.
Under Sotos's tutelage, the selected students are developing short films that will be presented at the opening of the eleventh edition of Novos Cinemas in December. The filmmaker proposes thinking about the logic of a marsh, without material hierarchy, to approach works focused on memory and the combination of heterogeneous materials, drawing inspiration from cinematic references and the Xunqueira environment itself.
Candela Sotos, who received the Premio Latexos de Novos Cinemas in 2025 for her film Yrupẽ, compares memory to a wetland where stories, social contexts, texts, and images are processed and filtered. The aim is to explore audiovisual materials through non-linear editing, creating layers that accumulate without erasing the previous ones, using the marsh as a conceptual idea rather than a direct theme.
The workshop, open to undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students from the Pontevedra campus, as well as recent graduates, is the first edition led by an emerging filmmaker not linked to the Galician audiovisual scene. Sotos, who also runs a graphic art workshop in Madrid, describes the project as "stimulating and fun," and a personal challenge coming from a more experimental background in visual arts.
Projects may draw inspiration from materials close to the students' personal histories or from the Xunqueira de Alba area, such as sound resources. Until December 8th, Sotos will advise Andrés Álvarez, Carlos Pinaque, Sara González, Celeste Pose, Andrea Zermeno, María Pillado, Naiara Vila, Cristina Chiarroni, Xoana Abraira, and Raquel Álvarez on the development of their short films.
