The University of Vigo has announced the winners of the eighth Campus Auga Awards, recognizing 13 research, transfer, and scientific dissemination works by its staff and students.

These awards, aimed at stimulating the university community's efforts in the Campus Auga's specialization areas, are divided into several categories, including doctoral theses, final degree projects, scientific contributions, and transfer and dissemination initiatives. The total prize money amounts to 12,000 euros, funded by the Xunta de Galicia.
In the doctoral thesis category, three research projects were awarded: one on the degradation of antibiotics in agricultural soils, another on the production of xylooligosaccharides using enzymatic technologies, and a third on the design of a CAD system for colonoscopy based on machine learning.
The recognized final master's projects cover the effect of vegetation covers on soil fertility in vineyards, the extraction of bioactive compounds from Laminaria ochroleuca, and the use of red marine macroalgae for obtaining proteins and xylan in a biorefinery.
In the scientific contributions section, three articles published in international journals were awarded. These focus on hydrophilic composite nanoparticles of wheat gluten protein, 3D-printed seafood analogues, and eco-friendly technologies for obtaining antioxidant compounds and protein hydrolysates from edible beetles.
Recognized transfer initiatives include a project for preventing Black rot in organic vineyards, the use of the Iber tool for the Miño-Sil Hydrographic Confederation, and theoretical-practical training for setting up a tomato preserve workshop.
Finally, the award for the best scientific dissemination action went to the workshop "Innovation towards sustainability in the vineyard".
