The Minister of Health, Antonio Gómez Caamaño, accompanied by the Director General of Public Health, Carmen Durán, and the manager of the health area, Ángel Facio, supervised the start of this study, which will be carried out intensively over five consecutive weekends.
The clinical trial, developed collaboratively between Denmark and Galicia, primarily aims to assess the combined vaccine's capacity to prevent hospitalizations due to these acute respiratory infections. The Ministry of Health will send informative SMS messages to 730,000 people, aiming for a participation of between 110,000 and 130,000 individuals across current and future campaigns.
The vaccine will be administered randomly, and it is estimated that simplifying vaccination can positively impact maintaining vaccination coverage and system efficiency. The study does not seek scientific evidence on the combined vaccine, which is already tested and authorized, but rather the best strategy for protecting the Galician population over 65.
With this trial, Galicia consolidates its position in vaccine research and the application of scientific evidence in public health, following previous impactful studies such as Galflu, Nirse-Gal, and Sincigal.
