The Director General of Primary and Community Care of the Galician Health Service, Salvador Mariño-Ageitos, today closed the Higienista Fest Galicia Fest 2026 in Santiago de Compostela, an event that brought together oral health professionals and announced the creation of 10 new dental hygienist positions.

The event, organized by the Professional College of Hygienists, highlighted the fundamental role of these professionals in primary care teams. The Director General emphasized their contribution to the prevention and treatment of oral health problems, as well as the promotion of healthy habits among citizens.
The proximity of primary care to the population is key to advancing towards a more preventive healthcare model. In this regard, the Primary and Community Care Reform Plan foresees the incorporation of 20 new positions specifically for oral health within the Galician Health Service, 10 of which will be for dental hygienists and another 10 for dentists.
This measure aims to strengthen the presence of these figures in the public system and promote oral health care from this assistance area. Salvador Mariño-Ageitos underscored the work of oral health professionals in the Galician healthcare system and thanked them for their contribution to prevention and health education for citizens.
