The Minister of the Sea, Marta Villaverde, along with other Galician fishing sector representatives, met in Brussels to coordinate actions and defend the community's interests within the European Union.

The Xunta de Galicia, through the Minister of the Sea, Marta Villaverde, and the Director General of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Technological Innovation, Isaac Rosón, reinforced coordination with the Galician fishing sector in Brussels. The meeting was held with the Galician professionals who chair the main Consultative Councils of the European Union.
Sergio López (Western Australian Waters, CCS), Iván López van der Veen (Long Distance Fleet, LDAC), and Yobana Bermúdez (Markets, MAC) participated in the meeting, along with the president of the National Federation of Fishermen's Guilds, Basilio Otero, representing the artisanal sector.
The main objective was to analyze work and align actions to ensure Galicia's influence in community decision-making within the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).
Urgent issues were addressed, such as generational renewal by improving working conditions and fleet habitability without increasing fishing capacity. Reciprocity was also demanded against imports from third countries to prevent unfair competition and combat illegal fishing.
Both parties agreed to maintain a direct channel of technical consultation to ensure that opinions and recommendations submitted to the European Commission firmly defend the leadership, sustainability, and economic viability of the Galician maritime-fishing sector.
