The director of the Galician Agency for Food Quality, Martín Alemparte, received representatives from Argentina and Uruguay in Sergude (Boqueixón) today to present Galicia's model of differentiated quality, associationism, and innovation in the beekeeping sector.

The international delegation, from Argentina's National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI) and Uruguay's Technological Laboratory (LATU), is visiting Galicia to learn about reference experiences in the beekeeping sector. This visit is part of a triangular cooperation project for Latin America and the Caribbean, promoted by Spanish Cooperation.
During the meeting, Martín Alemparte emphasized Galicia's commitment to a food quality model based on quality and differentiation, noting that Galician differentiated quality products achieved a turnover of nearly 746 million euros in 2025, involving over 21,700 producers and 1,100 agri-food industries.
He also highlighted the Agency's role in research and training, citing the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Mel de Galicia as an example of differentiation and commercial valorization.
Throughout their stay, the delegation explored various Galician beekeeping sector experiences, including the Agrupación Apícola de Galicia and the Erica Mel cooperative, as well as visiting farms dedicated to honey production and commercialization.
The program also included visits to the Regulatory Council of the PGI Mel de Galicia to learn about control and certification mechanisms, and to other regulatory councils such as the PDO Queixo Tetilla and the Geographical Indications for Traditional Galician Spirits and Liqueurs, providing a broad overview of the Galician differentiated quality model.
