The Xunta de Galicia, through the Consellería de Cultura, Lingua e Xuventude, promotes Galician oratory among youth with the programming of the Oteriano Year. The Secretary General for Language, Valentín García, highlighted the enduring legacy of Ramón Otero Pedrayo and the quality of the winning entries, demonstrating the value of Galician in new communication forms like podcasts.
The Galician government supports these initiatives as part of its linguistic strategy to enhance the prestige of the language on platforms popular with young people, in line with the new General Plan for the Normalization of the Galician Language. García emphasized that the contest is part of the Oteriano Year commemoration, befitting the intellectual's significance.
The first prize went to the project Ave Pedrayo II, from the Santa Teresa de Jesús-Carmelitas school in Ourense. The second award was for Don Ramón, from the Otero Pedrayo institute, and the third distinction was received by Samuel Barreiro, from the María Auxiliadora school.
The contest, organized by the Association of Friends of Otero Pedrayo in collaboration with the Secretaría Xeral de Lingua, Coren, and the Otero Pedrayo Foundation, is aimed at Galician students aged 15 to 25. The podcasts were required to focus on themes related to the Oteriano universe.
