The Provincial Council of A Coruña and the Cee City Council have signed an agreement to create the Batallón da Costa da Morte Literary Contest, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the historic literary collective.

The president of the Provincial Council of A Coruña, Valentín González Formoso, and the mayor of Cee, Margarita Lamela, signed a collaboration agreement today at the provincial institution's headquarters. The Council is contributing 18,000 euros, 80% of the total budget, for the first edition of this contest, which pays tribute to the literary collective founded in the town three decades ago.
The contest aims to establish itself as an annual event on the Galician cultural calendar, promote new literary voices, and foster intergenerational encounters among writers. The provincial president highlighted the importance of supporting cultural initiatives that energize the region and promote the Galician language, acknowledging the legacy of the Batallón Literario da Costa da Morte.
The creation of this award coincides with the thirtieth anniversary of the founding of the Batallón Literario da Costa da Morte in Cee on May 1, 1996. This collective became one of the most significant movements in contemporary Galician literature.
The first edition, dedicated to poetry, offers a prize of €3,000 for the winning work, along with a commemorative artistic piece and a certificate. The competition is open to individuals over 18 years of age submitting unpublished works in Galician. The jury will include members of the Batallón Literario.
The project also includes a free and open cultural program for the public, featuring poetry recitals, musical performances, and an institutional award ceremony.
