More than a hundred participants from ten countries are meeting in Sanxenxo at the International Fishing & Tourism Congress to discuss the regulation of these activities and the role of GALPs in developing the blue economy.

The event, taking place today and tomorrow, connects professionals from the fishing and tourism sectors, GALP representatives, and European entities with the aim of sharing experiences and addressing the challenges of a transforming sector.
The regulation of fishing tourism and the continuity of the Local Action Groups for the Fishing Sector (GALPs) in the next financial framework were key points during the inauguration. The president of GALP Ría de Pontevedra, María del Carmen Vázquez Nores, highlighted the diversity of origins as an opportunity to seek common answers.
Manuel Pablos López, from the Deputy Directorate General for Economic Sustainability and Social Affairs of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, emphasized the role of GALPs in promoting the blue economy and opened the door to reviewing fishing tourism regulations.
The mayor of Sanxenxo, Telmo Martín, pointed to the growing interest of visitors in fishing and maritime tourism as a way to connect with the tradition and identity of the Galician coast.
The Minister of the Sea, Marta Villaverde Acuña, closed the inaugural speeches, advocating for the connection between GALPs and the fishing sector to promote innovative projects and create opportunities in coastal territories.
The congress will continue by addressing the regulatory framework, European experiences, and the role of fishermen's guilds, as well as promotion and cooperation between territories. Tomorrow, there will be a showcase of projects and visits to fishing tourism experiences.
The event is part of the 'Mar e Rías' cooperation project, in which the eight GALPs of Galicia are collaborating to promote fishing and maritime tourism, fostering knowledge exchange and the development of coastal communities.
