The Galician Government plans to invest 1.5 million euros in the construction of a new health center in Meis, which will be put out to tender next year. The Director General of Primary and Community Care of the Servizo Galego de Saúde, Salvador Mariño-Ageitos, detailed the progress in the processing of this infrastructure in the 5th Commission of the Parliament.
The basic project for the new health center is currently undergoing review by the Sergas Works office, with approval anticipated this October. Subsequently, the corresponding municipal license will be requested. Once these steps are completed, the Galician Government expects to have the execution project approved and the necessary documentation to initiate the tender for the works by the first quarter of 2027.
Salvador Mariño-Ageitos highlighted the coordinated work between the technical teams of the Servizo Galego de Saúde, the health area of Pontevedra, and the drafting team to adapt the design to healthcare needs. He also indicated that the City Council has been informed of the entire process and the necessary deadline adjustments to ensure the infrastructure's maximum quality and best functional healthcare.
The new health center in Meis, included in the Xunta's Primary Care Health Infrastructure Plan, will consolidate healthcare services in a single 1,037 m² health center, replacing the current facilities in Mosteiro and San Martiño.
The new infrastructure will have two floors. The first will house the reception area, a multipurpose room, two family medicine consultations, and two nursing consultations, as well as a pediatric consultation and a lactation room. The second floor will include a medical consultation and a nursing consultation, the women's area with a midwife consultation and a health education classroom, a board room, and a staff library.
As part of the Primary Care Reform Plan (2026-2030), the Xunta will invest 320 million euros, which includes the incorporation of 644 new professionals, the renovation of health centers for over 220 million, the acquisition of new equipment, and the implementation of advanced technological systems.
