The Council of Tomiño has completed a new intervention in its Municipal Archive, organizing 602 documentary units and describing 2,669 records between 1987 and 2025, aiming to preserve and value the documentary heritage.

The Council of Tomiño has taken a new step in preserving and valuing its municipal history by organizing 602 documentary units and describing 2,669 records in its Municipal Archive, covering the period between 1987 and 2025. This project, developed with the support of the consultancy UNAYTA, offers a panorama of the municipality's administrative, territorial, and social evolution.
Mayor Sandra González highlighted that the archive "holds much more than administrative files: it contains the history of how we grew, the services that were launched, and the life of our parishes". She added that "caring for this documentation is also caring for a shared memory that we must preserve and pass on to future generations".
The described records include documents on the daily activities of the local administration, such as Plenary sessions, Mayor's decrees, contracting, economic management, urban planning, building permits, street openings, water supply, and municipal facilities. They also cover aspects of social life, including municipal census, festivities, culture, sports, education, social assistance, employment, tourism, environment, and civil protection.
González also emphasized the work's utility for the Council's operation, stating that "having well-organized documentation facilitates its consultation and helps us better respond to the needs of the residents". She noted it is a "little-visible, but necessary task for a more agile Administration".
The project involved reviewing and conditioning the files, classifying and describing the documentation according to the normalized criteria NOGADA and ISAD(G), and the final installation of the units in the municipal deposit. Furthermore, available space was optimized, and conservation conditions were improved.
The work carried out establishes a roadmap for continuing with the treatment of pending documentation, particularly in the areas of Urban Planning and Finance, and advancing in the digitization of older funds. With this action, Tomiño consolidates a more organized, accessible, and future-ready Municipal Archive.
