Minister of Health, Antonio Gómez Caamaño, announced in Parliament that Galicia's 2026-2030 strategic mental health plan includes adapting an annex building to the Comprehensive Health Center (CIS) in Lugo to centralize outpatient care for individuals with mental health issues.

This initiative, with an investment of 2.25 million euros, will allow for the incorporation of new care devices, improved team coordination, and enhanced continuity of treatment and patient follow-up. The intervention is planned for the medium term, by 2030, and will utilize the rear block of the building within the CIS complex, located in the Residencia neighborhood.
The initiative complements the existing mental health services at the center, which opened in 2023 and offers primary care, emergencies, and various support services. The 2026-2030 strategic mental health plan also includes other actions in the province of Lugo, such as improving facilities in Calde and creating a new child and adolescent hospitalization unit at the Hospital Lucus Augusti (HULA).
The planning for these new care spaces is part of the transformation process for Lugo's healthcare infrastructure, which also includes the Sagrado Corazón health center, to be built on the site of the former school to replace the current facility. In this regard, Gómez Caamaño noted that the Lugo City Council has already made the land available and the next step is to formalize its transfer to the Galician Health Service.
The regional government has a technical proposal for an infrastructure with an autonomous investment of approximately 5 million euros and a surface area of about 1,600 square meters. Once the plot is transferred, the plan is to tender the project's drafting in the spring. The new infrastructure will enable better organization of primary care spaces, improve working conditions for professionals, and provide more adequate care to residents.
Furthermore, the regional government is advancing the renovation of the Milagrosa health center. The minister explained that structural reinforcement was necessary during the work, including beam and pillar sanitation, which slowed down the start of more visible tasks. In any case, the objective is to complete the works next year.
