The Ares City Council is strengthening the selective collection of organic matter and the reduction of food waste through a project developed in 2026, funded by the Xunta de Galicia and the European Union.

The Ares City Council promoted during 2026 the project «Promotion and improvement of the municipal waste management system of the Ares City Council 2026». The initiative aims to improve the selective collection of organic matter, promote responsible consumption habits, and move towards a more sustainable waste management model.
This action is part of Line 1 of the grants to increase eco-efficiency in the management of municipal waste, convened by the Consellería de Medio Ambiente e Cambio Climático of the Xunta de Galicia.
The program included 36 door-to-door information actions aimed at hospitality businesses and large producers, 4 workshops on food waste, 10 educational activities in schools, the distribution of 500 t-shirts, and the creation of 1,000 informational leaflets.
With this initiative, the Ares City Council reaffirms its commitment to environmental protection and the improvement of municipal selective collection services, aiming to increase citizen participation and the quality of collected organic waste.
The project has a granted subsidy of 12,502.88 euros, financed by the Xunta de Galicia and co-financed by the European Union through the Galicia FEDER 2021-2027 Program.
