The appointment, recognizing Naya's scientific career and commitment to open science, places him on this independent body for a three-year term, renewable for another three. Naya will join 21 other internationally renowned researchers from various scientific disciplines.
Salvador Naya expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and highlighted the pivotal role of artificial intelligence in redefining how knowledge is produced and shared. "In a context of profound changes driven by AI, strengthening open science is essential," he stated, adding that it is a privilege to contribute to Open Research Europe's advancement towards a more open and transparent publishing system, "especially from the perspective of engineering and technology."
The Scientific Advisory Board, selected from over 400 candidates based on scientific excellence, editorial experience, and commitment to open science, will play a significant role in ORE's new phase. Its responsibilities include advising on editorial policies, guidelines for authors and reviewers, ethical standards, peer review processes, transparency, and potential scientific misconduct, as well as platform sustainability and new service development.
Open Research Europe promotes a scientific communication model based on open access, free publication of publicly funded research results, and open expert review, aiming for a more transparent, accessible, and timely dissemination of scientific knowledge.
Naya's inclusion in this international body not only acknowledges his research achievements but also strengthens the University of A Coruña's presence in European forums for scientific communication reflection and decision-making. In Spain, the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities participates in ORE through the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), aligning with the National Open Science Strategy (ENCA).
