The CRAT rugby club of A Coruña celebrated its 50th anniversary today, in an event attended by the mayor, Inés Rey, and other council members, who underscored the municipal collaboration with the entity.

The CRAT rugby club of A Coruña celebrated its 50th anniversary today. The event was attended by the mayor, Inés Rey, the Councilor for Social Welfare, Participation and Equality, Nereida Canosa, and the Councilor for Sports, Manuel Vázquez. The mayor highlighted the close collaboration between the City Council and the entity over the decades to promote grassroots sports and solidarity values.
Inés Rey stated that the City Council is "a faithful ally of this team in all its facets and versions" and pledged support for the project. She also recalled the joint organization of the Spanish Championship of Inclusive Rugby, "once again betting on sport as a tool for inclusion, coexistence, and social transformation".
The mayor also praised the current moment of the senior women's team, stating that they "very well represent the character of a first-division city like A Coruña: non-conformist, hardworking, proud of what it is, and ready to compete with anyone, without complexes". She added that "when we see these players defend the CRAT colors, we also see a part of who we are as a city. We see effort, talent, commitment, and an enormous capacity to overcome difficulties".
During the event, prominent figures in the club's history since its founding in 1976, linked to the School of Technical Architecture of A Coruña, were also remembered. The mayor recalled "people like Ignacio Lobón and so many others who laid the first stones of this beautiful joint building", thanking their effort and affection over these five decades.
