The Ministry of Health of the Xunta de Galicia announced that the Strategic Mental Health Plan 2026-2030, with an investment of 177 million euros, will include home hospitalization services for child and adolescent mental health.

The Minister of Health, Antonio Gómez Caamaño, announced that the reinforcement of youth mental health care promoted by the Xunta will include the provision of home hospitalization services. This measure is part of the Strategic Mental Health Plan of Galicia 2026-2030, presented to healthcare professionals and social entities.
Gómez Caamaño indicated that this initiative responds to the growing concern about youth mental health, combining prevention, early detection, and specialized care. Home hospitalization will be offered as a flexible therapeutic alternative to conventional hospitalization, focused on the family environment.
The plan also foresees extending child and adolescent care up to 18 years of age and creating multidisciplinary early intervention teams in the seven health areas. Furthermore, it highlights the YAM program for suicide prevention, in which 16,500 schoolchildren have already participated, with the aim of reaching 80% of educational centers.
The total investment of the Strategic Mental Health Plan is 177 million euros. Of this, 52.7 million will be allocated to the incorporation of 357 professionals, 49.6 million to addiction care, 27.5 million to residential resources, and 12 million to works and equipment. The Consello da Xunta approved the draft budget for 2027, which supports this plan.
Among other actions, new hospitalization units will be created in A Coruña, Ferrol, and Ourense, day hospitals in Lugo and Pontevedra will be improved, and specialized resources in Vigo will be reinforced. The minister highlighted the fundamental role of public health professionals and social entities in the design and development of the plan.
