The first deputy mayor and municipal spokesperson, José Manuel Lage, reported today on the decisions made at the Local Government Board. Among the approved matters is the formalization of the contract to the municipal company EMVSA for the management of the San Amaro covered municipal heated pool. This facility, previously managed by the Club do Mar, will now be managed by the municipality by mutual agreement with the club, aiming to maintain the service conditions and provision.
Lage indicated that the City Council is undertaking significant investments to improve the facility. "We believe this is the best solution to ensure this process has positive effects for users and does not cause problems for the club," he stated. The projected investment for pool management is estimated at 86,000 euros for 2026, 324,000 euros for 2027, and 198,000 euros for 2028, with the goal of "enabling it to provide an even better service than it currently does".
Regarding the Torre Sports City, the second phase of locker room renovation has been awarded with an investment exceeding 654,000 euros. This intervention complements the first phase, which already surpassed 850,000 euros. The project includes the creation of two new team locker rooms through a spatial reorganization, addressing user demands. The renovation incorporates high-resistance materials, air conditioning, ventilation, a ventilated facade, thermal insulation, and roof improvements.
Furthermore, a modification to the concierge service contract for municipal sports buildings was approved to extend service hours by 2,030.25 hours annually. This measure aims to ensure the proper development of activities and will advance opening times at several sports centers. The total annual investment will reach 5,358,070.13 euros.
Finally, the proposal to settle the agreement with the Ministry of Defense concerning the property known as «Acuartelamento da Grela» or Cuartel de Automóviles was greenlit. The objective is to expedite the parceling project for this space, which the City Council plans to develop to house facilities that support urban transport logistics. The project allocates nearly 22,000 square meters for garages and other public services.
