Work on the new dissuasive parking lot in Lugo's O Ceao industrial park is progressing, aiming to create 117 new parking spaces and reclaim municipal land. The project, located between Benigno Rivera, Industria, and Agricultura streets, seeks to address a real parking need in the area.
The mayor of Lugo, Elena Candia, highlighted the project's strategic importance, noting that the previous alternative energy park, which never functioned, was "an example of what not to do" due to wasted public resources. In contrast, the new parking lot will efficiently utilize resources and improve the image of the entrance to Lugo.
The intervention covers an area of approximately 5,096 square meters and involves an investment of 427,450.65 euros, funded 50% by the Novo Norte PAI with European FEDER funds and 50% by the Xunta de Galicia. The parking lot will have an entrance on Industria street and an exit on Agricultura street.
The project includes the preservation of existing trees and green areas, permeable pavements, and a drainage system. It also provides reserved spaces for people with disabilities and areas for future electric vehicle charging.
This initiative is part of the City Council's plan to establish a network of dissuasive parking lots in various locations across Lugo. Project proposals for three other parking lots have already been submitted on rúa Primavera, avenida de Vilaverde, and rúa Xosé Castiñeira, contributing to a broader effort to create 293 new parking spaces in eight city locations.
