The A Coruña Council has begun refurbishment and accessibility improvement works at the Castro de Elviña, with an investment of nearly €160,000, to facilitate controlled visits and understanding of the archaeological site.

The objective of the intervention is to condition the area so that it can be visited in a controlled manner by the public and more comfortably, balancing visits with the protection and conservation criteria of the archaeological site. It also aims to improve the understanding and interpretation of the archaeological remains by visitors.
The work will be carried out with the utmost respect for the integrity of the archaeological complex, following criteria of reversibility, minimal intervention, and low landscape impact. Furniture elements, made of concrete for easy maintenance, will have specific designs that minimize their presence on the ground.
The path drainage system will use small channels planted with wild herbaceous plants to fully integrate into the area's landscape. The path layouts will follow, as far as possible, existing routes that correspond to traditional access paths to old farmlands or communication routes in the area.
The reuse of old paths for access and movement within the archaeological zone allows for the recovery of historical and traditional routes for pedestrian use, while avoiding the creation of new paths that could interfere with unexcavated archaeological remains.
Specific actions include the conditioning of the car park on the Camiño das Penas da Grela, the access paths to the archaeological area, and the old Camiño de Mesoiro-Feáns (Camiño do Castelo). Two rest areas will be created next to this latter path, away from the archaeological remains.
A low-height lighting installation will also be carried out between the car park and the archaeological area, with a reduced level to avoid light pollution. Additionally, the intervention areas will be vegetated, creating meadows in drainage channel and embankment areas, and in the zone designated for events at the southern end.
The total investment in the three major projects to enhance the Castro de Elviña (accessibility improvements, new support center, and perimeter fencing) exceeds €750,000. The perimeter fencing is already well advanced and will help maintain security within the site.
