Students from the Ulla-Umia Employment Workshop in Valga participated today in an educational session on waste management and composting, led by municipal composting expert Silvia Torres.

The session began with a talk on the correct separation of different waste fractions, discussing which items go into each bin and which should be taken to the recycling center. Torres also informed attendees about the services available to residents, such as selective collection, the fixed recycling center in Campaña, the mobile recycling center, and the door-to-door bulky waste collection service.
Another key focus of the day was the management of organic waste through composting, a system implemented in the municipality in 2020. Currently, the municipal network includes over 1,000 domestic composters and seven community composting centers.

Through this natural decomposition process, organic matter is transformed into natural fertilizer, avoiding the use of chemical fertilizers.

To conclude the day, the group visited the community composting center on Avenida da Coruña, where participants could see the theoretical explanations in practice, analyzing the process status and compost quality at different stages.
The students showed great interest and participation, asking questions about composting and waste management in general.
