The initiative, approved by the Governing Council, is structured through a general regulation and the Plan for Training in Responsible Artificial Intelligence (FIAR Plan). This combination positions USC among Spanish universities with the most complete and systematic proposals in this area.
The regulation establishes the principles, guarantees, conditions of use, and responsibilities applicable to the utilization of AI in university activities, addressing aspects such as transparency, human responsibility, academic and scientific integrity, data protection, intellectual property, security, and human supervision.
The FIAR Plan develops training, information, and awareness-raising actions, promoting AI literacy and ensuring knowledge of its possibilities, limitations, and risks. It is structured into four programs: AI in Learning, AI in Teaching, AI in Research and Knowledge Transfer, and AI in University Management.
Implementation will be progressive and will include the creation of a network of AI reference persons and a monitoring and evaluation system. Guides, procedures, models, and training courses will be derived from it.
The delegate of the rector for Digital Strategy, María José Carreira, stated that "with this initiative, USC is committed to an integration of artificial intelligence that combines innovation, human responsibility, protection of rights, and development of competencies, within a common and coherent institutional framework."
In the same meeting, the statutes of the Outeiriño Seara Foundation were approved, dedicated to promoting projects in the discovery and development of new drugs, fulfilling the testamentary mandate of José Luís Outeiriño Seara.
The Foundation will promote research in various pharmacological areas, project advisory services, the creation of companies based on university knowledge, and collaboration with other entities.
Other topics addressed included personnel matters, USC's Quality policy, the regulations of the Modern Languages Center, modification of the foreign language proficiency accreditation regulations, incorporation into the Spanish Dairy Technological Platform Association Vía Láctea, and the creation of the Chair of Media Literacy.
