The Provincial Council of A Coruña and the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) have signed a collaboration agreement to research the history of cultural policies in Galicia between 1978 and 2024. The provincial institution contributes 32,000 euros to this project.

The provincial body is contributing 32,000 euros for the research project "Aproximación á historia das políticas culturais de Galicia (1978-2024)" (Approach to the history of cultural policies in Galicia, 1978-2024). The total budget for the initiative is 40,000 euros. The Deputy for Culture, Natividade González, and the Rector of the USC, Rosa María Crujeiras Casais, formalized the signing, emphasizing the institutional commitment to understanding Galicia's cultural reality.
Natividade González highlighted the "importance" of analyzing the evolution of cultural policies to understand the current sector and its future challenges. She praised the "rigorous work and commitment of the University of Santiago de Compostela to research" and the "research capacity of the USC" as a guarantee for undertaking this study. She also stressed that the collaboration "allows us to join forces and put academic knowledge at the service of Galician culture".
The main objective of the project is to compile, analyze, and synthesize the transformations, legislative frameworks, budgets, and lines of action that have defined the Galician cultural landscape over the last four decades. The research will be structured in three phases: documentary review, compilation of statistics, and fieldwork with sector agents through interviews, focus groups, and qualitative questionnaires.
The results, which will be presented in an informative document with infographics and graphs, will be executed throughout the year 2026. This alliance between the Provincial Council and the USC aims to facilitate the dissemination and understanding of the most relevant milestones in Galician cultural policy.
