The ceremony was presided over by rector Rosa Crujeiras, accompanied at the table by the Faculty's dean, José M. Carreira; the CHUS manager, Ángel Facio; and the Faculty's academic secretary, María Jesús Tabernero.
The rector highlighted the faculty's value in preparing professionals essential for society's care and addressed the challenges of strengthening dentistry and facing the decentralization of clinical teaching in medicine, emphasizing the importance of maintaining training and care quality.
Crujeiras also noted that around the Faculty and its university hospital, a valuable health sciences ecosystem has been built, connecting basic research with clinical practice, driving translational science, and improving patient care. She considered this collective heritage something to be cared for and strengthened to avoid weakening the scientific, health, and economic capacity it brings to society.
During the event, honorary plaques were presented to staff retired during the past academic year, including Eduardo Olveira Gallardo and Julián Álvarez Escudero. Carlos Dieguez Gónzalez, the most senior professor, gave thanks on behalf of the awardees.
Additionally, mentions were awarded for University-Enterprise Collaboration in Health Sciences 2025, extraordinary awards for Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees, and mentions for student participation in Teaching Innovation Projects and for representatives of Medicine student associations at USC.
Speakers also included Diana Fernández Méndez, Ángel Facio Villanueva, and Dean José Martín Carreira Villamor, who delivered the institutional speech.
