The Galician Government Council has given the green light to the texts of the Statutes for rural and maritime-fishing women, which are entering their final processing phase with their submission to the Consello Consultivo. The Minister of Presidency, Justice, and Sports, Diego Calvo, reported that the objective is for both documents to be “approved by the end of the year”.
These statutes aim to recognize, value, and make visible the role of women in these fields, guarantee their equal access to rights, opportunities, and resources, promote their hiring in male-dominated professions, and encourage shared ownership of farms and vessels.
The Statute for rural women will promote that at least 40% of the governing bodies of rural associative structures are formed by women, in addition to fostering access to agricultural work, self-employment, training, and co-responsibility.
For its part, the text for women in the maritime sector includes measures to promote female hiring in male-dominated professions, adapt equipment and vessels with a gender perspective, and encourage shared ownership. The regulation of the Consello Galego de Pesca is also modified to ensure the representation of women's maritime organizations.
Both documents establish specific measures to promote employment, training, work-life balance, occupational health, and female entrepreneurship, as well as women's participation in decision-making and representation spaces.
