The Director of the Galician Innovation Agency, Carmen Cotelo, presented the 2027 Budgets to Parliament today, totaling €110M, a 2.2% increase, to boost R&D&I in Galicia.

The Xunta de Galicia will promote new lines of support for projects in biotechnology, quantum technologies, and artificial intelligence (AI), as well as attract more researchers to strengthen research, development, and innovation (R&D&I). The budget for the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN) for 2027 increases by 2.2%, reaching 110 million euros.
For high-impact initiatives in these strategic areas, over 40 million euros are allocated. This includes the launch of the European artificial intelligence factory 1HealthAI, which will feature a supercomputer, and the integration of Finisterrae IV into Cesga.
The Consellería de Educación, Ciencia, Innovación e FP will contribute 17.5 million euros to researcher recruitment, strengthening programs like Oportunius. Public-private collaboration will receive 23 million euros through programs such as Nexos, Unidades Mixtas, or Vinnovate.
GAIN's Director, Carmen Cotelo, highlighted that actions cover the entire R&D&I value chain, connecting talent, science, technological capabilities, companies, and the market. "The challenge is for more talent to find opportunities in Galicia, for more scientific projects to transform into technology, for more companies to innovate, and for public investment to yield tangible results in our society," she stated.
The Galician Strategy for Quantum Technologies will consolidate a specialized hub, while the Biotechnology Strategy of Galicia 2026-2030 will continue with strategic alliances with industry. The Oportunius program will receive €5.9M to attract research talent, with an invested return of 5.7 times its investment.
Additionally, 6.6 million euros are allocated to business R&D&I, with the Ciencia Empresa program, and 1.3 million euros for local R&D&I Plans. The transfer of research results to the market has 12.8 million euros, including the Ignicia program and a new Proof of Concept call to support spin-offs.
