The Ministry of Education has established a working group to design 'Avanza Matemáticas', the new reinforcement program for this subject aimed at the Primary stage.

The Ministry of Education, Science, Universities and Vocational Training has established the working group for the design of Avanza Matemáticas, the new reinforcement program for this subject in centers that need it most. This initiative, along with Avanza Lectura, is part of the Galician Framework for Educational Advancement launched by the Xunta de Galicia.
The Director General of Educational Planning and Innovation, Judith Fernández, chaired the first meeting of this team. The group consists of about ten specialist mathematics teachers from various centers in Galicia, the president of the Galician Association of Mathematics Education Teachers (Apagema), Julio Rodríguez, and technicians from the Ministry's evaluation and training services.
The main objective of Avanza Matemáticas is to build solid foundations for learning this subject, prioritizing the understanding and mastery of basic concepts over the accumulation of content. Special emphasis will be placed on numerical sense, calculation, the relationship between quantities, reasoning, and problem-solving. Furthermore, specific training for teachers on these concepts will be provided.
This program is part of a broad package of measures under the new Galician Framework for Educational Advancement, focused on the comprehensive and continuous improvement of the system. It includes reinforcements in key learning areas such as reading and mathematical competencies, support for teachers, promotion of equal opportunities, and adaptation to technological advancements and artificial intelligence.
