The Xunta de Galicia has granted conditional environmental approval for the project to build the Alba Bypass in the municipality of Pontevedra, a new road that will connect the PO-531 and the N-550.

The resolution from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change does not foresee significant adverse impacts on the environment, provided that the conditions set forth in the environmental report and the evaluated documentation are met. The project, promoted by the Galician Agency of Infrastructures (AXI), aims to reorganize traffic currently passing through the parishes of Alba, Cerponzóns, and Lérez.
The new route will connect the PO-531 and the N-550 via roundabouts, using one existing and constructing another. A viaduct will also be projected to cross the AP-9 and the railway line. The environmental impact report was prepared following a simplified assessment and a public participation process without objections, after consulting 13 organizations.
The assessments consider the project viable, provided that the conditions established regarding the protection of the atmosphere, population and health; waters and riverbeds; soil and infrastructure; natural and cultural heritage; landscape integration, and waste management are met. The environmental impact report does not exempt the promoter from obtaining all necessary authorizations.
