The Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Ángeles Vázquez, and the Mayor of Leiro, Francisco José Fernández, met today in Santiago de Compostela to assess possibilities for implementing measures to improve the municipality's water supply.

The mayor informed the minister about a project proposed by the Council to reinforce the service through a surface water intake from the Avia River, which would include a pumping station and an impulsion pipeline to the drinking water treatment plant (ETAP).
For her part, Ángeles Vázquez stated that the technical staff of Augas de Galicia will study the council's project to determine its technical feasibility and potential funding collaboration avenues.
It should be recalled that, although responsibilities for sanitation, purification, and water supply are municipal, the Xunta de Galicia, through the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, provides technical and economic support to Galician councils to help them exercise these functions efficiently and provide quality services to their residents.
