The event will feature the recipients Jacobo Paz Limia, in the poetry category, and Manuel Vilas López, in journalism. Additionally, there will be a performative act by Nuria Vil, who will present her work ‘desobediensia’.
The jury highlighted Jacobo Paz Limia's work Mariscadoras for its social theme and the powerful imagery depicting the work of the sea from a female perspective. Meanwhile, Manuel Vilas López was recognized for his reportage “Nin pirómano nin inocente: o eucalipto arde ben nun rural abandonado” (Neither arsonist nor innocent: the eucalyptus burns well in an abandoned rural area), published in Galicia Pres, which the jury praised as an original and daring analysis of the role of eucalyptus in fires.
Manuel Vilas López has been the coordinator of Galiciapress since 2018 and has an extensive career in journalism, including leadership positions in the Professional College of Journalists of Galicia and the Union of Journalists of Galicia.
Jacobo Paz Limia, in addition to winning the XIV Manuel López Ardeiro Poetry Prize with the work Kensington, has over twenty years of experience as an audiovisual screenwriter, participating in programs like Atrápame se podes (Iris Prize 2024) and series such as Saudade de ti.
These awards, endowed with 2,500 euros per category, were established as a tribute to José Gómez de la Cueva, known as Johan Carballeira, a politician, poet, and journalist from Bueu, who also served as mayor until his assassination.
