The Xunta and the Pontedeume Fishermen's Guild are strengthening their cooperation for the improvement and regeneration of shellfish beds, holding a working meeting to assess the state of resources and the professionals' needs.

The Director General of Fisheries, Isaac Rosón, and the Director General of Fisheries Development, Ángeles Vázquez Suárez, met today in Santiago with the Pontedeume Fishermen's Guild to jointly analyze the status of shellfish resources and coordinate actions.
During the meeting, the evolution of the production zones in the estuary was monitored, and the main needs expressed by shellfish professionals were addressed. Both parties highlighted the constant dialogue and coordinated work between the Xunta and the guild to find technical and operational solutions adapted to their activity's reality.
This cooperation is primarily reflected in an agreement signed between the Ministry of the Sea and this sector entity for the development of a restoration and recovery plan for shellfish habitats, with an investment of 398,531 euros. The agreement includes measures such as controlling competing species and direct remuneration for shellfish workers for these tasks. Furthermore, the shellfish gathering group will present complementary regeneration measures in the coming weeks.
Likewise, regional and guild representatives reviewed the various measures and support lines that the Ministry of the Sea offers to the sector, emphasizing the common goal of continuing to jointly evaluate new avenues of technical and economic collaboration that contribute to consolidating the biological sustainability and viability of local shellfish beds.
