The exhibition, which has previously been shown in Madrid, Llerena, and Ávila, continues its tour, reaching the city of Plasencia, in Cáceres, which, like Tui, is part of the Network of Spanish Jewish Quarters – Paths of Sepharad.
The exhibition features reproductions of fourteen original textile pieces from the Diocesan Museum of Tui. It represents a historical source of immense value and one of the most direct and scarce testimonies of inquisitorial activity, offering a journey through the social and religious context of 17th-century Galicia and the persecution dynamics of the Inquisition.
“"This exhibition on the sambenitos of Tui Cathedral, after the exceptional reception it received at the Sefarad-Israel Center in Madrid as well as in Llerena and Ávila, now comes to an emblematic locality like Plasencia, which this autumn is promoting various activities around Jewish heritage."
The councilor also adds that the exhibition "not only contributes to the dissemination of these pieces of Tui's heritage but is also an opportunity to promote the heritage and tourist values of the city of Tui."
Plasencia's Jewish quarter, located in the La Mota area, was one of the most important in Extremadura, driving the economy of the medieval city. After the expulsion of the Jews in 1492, a rich cultural legacy remained.
The exhibition venue is the “Las Claras” Cultural Center, a former convent that has been converted and also houses the tourist office and spaces for other exhibitions.
