The Rural Women's House of Tomiño returns to activity this October 15, coinciding with the International Day of Rural Women, after the conclusion of the building's rehabilitation work. The association, founded in 1993 and with over three decades of history, thus resumes its usual space for meeting, training, and coexistence.
The users received the keys to the facilities during a day marked by the joy of returning to a place that is part of the entity's history and the memory of many of its members. Over the years, the association has promoted training activities such as courses in crafts, embroidery, painting, handicrafts, or computer skills, as well as cultural excursions and coexistence meetings.
The recovery of this space, part of the residential complex of the Obra Sindical del Hogar built between the late 1940s and early 1950s, ensures the continuity of the association's trajectory. The building now boasts improved accessibility, habitability, and energy efficiency conditions, including an access ramp, an adapted toilet, resolution of humidity problems, improved thermal insulation, and renovation of the air conditioning, ventilation, and lighting systems, while preserving the building's original architectural identity.
The coincidence of this return with the International Day of Rural Women also serves as a tribute to all the women who, with their effort and commitment, have contributed to keeping the social and community life of Tomiño alive, recognizing their fundamental role in the town's history and present.
