Blood collection for the health research study began this afternoon at the Hospital Universitario Lucus Augusti, targeting individuals who received an SMS invitation. Extractions will continue until October 29.
The appointment-only collection hours are from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Participants are not required to fast, and healthcare staff will provide detailed information about the process.
For this new phase, 1,947 SMS invitations were randomly sent in Lugo and 342 in Cee. The goal is to achieve participation from 389 individuals in the Lugo health district and 68 in the Cee district.
Samples will also be collected at the Hospital Público Virxe da Xunqueira on October 15 and 22. Participation will soon be extended to the health districts of A Coruña and Pontevedra and O Salnés.
The Xenoma Galicia project has already analyzed 3,112 biological samples. In phase 1, the analysis of 1,279 samples led to the detection of 25 positive cases for screened pathologies: 14 for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, 2 for Lynch syndrome, and 9 for familial hypercholesterolemia.
In total, 53 positive cases have been detected to date (19 from the blood pilot, 9 from the saliva pilot, and 25 from phase 1), including cases of breast and ovarian cancer, Lynch syndrome, and familial hypercholesterolemia.
