A dozen people participated this morning at the San Sadurniño Day Center in an activity to recover historical memory through recollections centered on radio and listening habits during the post-war years and the dictatorship.

The event, organized by the City Council and the Association of Galician Municipal Radio Stations (EMUGA) within the program “Burying the spirit of war and hate speech,” will continue tomorrow, Wednesday, at the CPI of San Sadurniño, with an activity aimed at 3rd and 4th year ESO students. The program will proceed on Saturday afternoon with an event at the Town Hall where a plaque will be unveiled in memory of the victims of Francoism.
The presence of the first radio sets in homes, the arrival of radio programming in the parishes, and the custom of listening to programs with family or in neighboring homes were central to much of this morning's conversation. Participants reconstructed memories such as the first time they heard the radio, the collective following of radio soap operas, or visits to nearby houses to catch the contest Desfile de Estrellas, a popular program from Radio Nacional.
The meeting allowed for the recovery of small stories of daily life that are also part of the collective memory of the era. All collected material will be used to create a podcast that can be heard soon on the website of Radiofusión, the platform for Galician municipal radio stations.
The program “Burying the spirit of war and hate speech” moves this Wednesday to the CPI of San Sadurniño. There, the comic book A morte nas fragas and the short film Os fíos da memoria will be presented to the students. A podcast creation workshop will also be held with the 3rd and 4th year ESO groups, with participation from Ana Santiago, Anxos García Fonte, Quique Sanfiz, and historian Roque Sanfiz.
The next event will be this Saturday. At 6:30 PM, a ceramic plaque will be unveiled at the Town Hall in memory of the victims of the coup d'état of July 18, 1936, and the Francoist dictatorship (1936-1975). The event will continue at 7:00 PM at the Casa da Cultura with a talk on the society of San Sadurniño between 1900 and 1950.
The program will conclude on Monday, November 9, at the Municipal Library with a book club session around the work A morte nas fragas. The illustrator Carlos Sardiña and the screenwriter Anxos García Fonte will attend.
“Burying the spirit of war and hate speech” is an initiative of the San Sadurniño City Council in collaboration with EMUGA and with the financial support of the Provincial Council of A Coruña.
