The initiative, which the Department of Linguistic Policy is resuming this academic year through the Linguistic Normalization Service, starts with an issue dedicated to autumn festivals such as magosto (chestnut roasting), esfolla (corn husking), or Samaín, which is celebrated tomorrow, Saturday, October 31st. The brochures will reach about one hundred families with children aged 2 to 3 years throughout the course.
Each brochure includes information, curiosities, and linguistic resources on emblematic Galician cultural traditions, such as Christmas, Carnival, Os Maios, or San Xoán, and how they are experienced in Narón. They will also cover important institutional dates for language and culture, such as the Galician Literature Day, Rosalía Day, or Narón Day.
“"The age of the children is the best time for Galician and our traditions to enter the home naturally and be shared as a family."
The Councillor for Linguistic Policy, María Lorenzo, highlighted the importance of introducing Galician and traditions in childhood so they can be shared within families. Through the “Our Traditions” program, the City Council also aims for families to learn about and participate in Apego, a program that promotes socialization in Galician from infancy.
The brochures can also be downloaded from the website of the Linguistic Normalization Service, www.naronengalego.gal, in the 'dinamización' (animation) section, or directly at www.naronengalego.gal/dinamizacion.
