The Director General of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Technological Innovation, Isaac Rosón, and the Director General of Fisheries Development, Ángeles Vázquez Suárez, met with the guilds to analyze the state of resources and coordinate operational actions.
Among the proposed measures to ensure the sustainability of the fishing grounds are a temporary closure of activity, the removal of competitors, and corresponding economic support for professionals affected by this suspension.
Both parties highlighted the fluid dialogue and continuous collaboration between the regional administration and the estuary's guilds to find solutions tailored to the fleet's needs. Recently, an agreement was signed with Barallobre Guild, endowed with over 1.3 million euros for the recovery of habitats affected by low salinity, and a project with Redemar for the evaluation of the scallops in the Ferrol estuary, with an investment of nearly 168,000 euros.
They agreed on the importance of maintaining this technical coordination to assess the biological evolution of the fishing grounds and ensure both the sustainability of marine resources and the economic stability of shellfish professionals.
