The head of the health portfolio appeared at the Pazo do Hórreo to report on the 2026-2030 Primary and Community Care Reform Plan, which has an investment of 320 million euros. Among the 136 planned positions, 39 will be for family and community medicine and 8 for strengthening the primary care clinical psychology network.
The plan aims to reduce the bureaucratic burden on doctors, optimize appointment schedules, and reinforce staff. Working conditions and remuneration will also be improved, and primary care will be equipped with the necessary infrastructure and technological tools.
The minister detailed that the plan foresees four areas of action, including strengthening management within the Sergas. It sets daily appointment limits of 30 for family medicine and 25 for pediatrics, with defined attention times and a flexible portion managed by the professional.
To absorb excess demand, specific voluntary and remunerated schedules will be activated outside of regular working hours. The Xunta is piloting the new scheduling model in health centers such as Maristany (Ferrol) and Cambre, and plans to extend it to 14 centers in the coming weeks.
Regarding the creation of positions, the plan foresees 644 new roles across 16 categories. Highlights include 45 for family and community medicine, 47 in nursing, 45 for midwives, 28 for podiatrists, and 50 clinical psychologists. Pharmacy, physiotherapy, social work, and oral health services will also be reinforced.
The Xunta will allocate 21.5 million euros to the creation of these structural positions, adding 10.3 million from other commitments. Furthermore, 278 million will be invested in infrastructure, technology, and equipment during the plan's duration.
