On November 7th, a documentary will be screened in tribute to Carmen González Iglesias, known as 'A Zapateira', a key figure in preserving and transmitting traditional Galician music and dance in Pontecesures.

At 96 years old, Carmen González Iglesias, 'A Zapateira', represents the living memory of Pontecesures. Her life has been linked to the transmission of traditional Galician dance and music, training hundreds of girls and boys, women and men who passed through her group. Through her, she preserved, created, and transmitted traditional lyrics, rhymes, and songs, keeping alive a legacy passed down through generations.
On November 7th at 18:00, the screening of the documentary bearing her name aims to pay tribute to Carmen and, at the same time, highlight the fundamental role of our elders as transmitters of knowledge, educators, and guardians of collective memory.
This recognition celebrates years of dedication and commitment to popular culture, while also serving as an opportunity to reflect on equality and the value of work that, for a long time, remained invisible. Preserving our memory also means recognizing those who made it possible for it to reach us.
The event will take place in the Plenary Hall of the Concello de Pontecesures.
