The Research Center in Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC) of the Universidade da Coruña participated in the XXVII edition of Ciencia en Acción, an international scientific dissemination event held in San Sebastián from October 23rd to 25th. The event aims to bring science and technology closer to society through experiments, demonstrations, and participatory activities, fostering interest in research and inspiring scientific vocations.
CITIC researcher Adriana Dapena presented the educational initiative “CitasTIC: Investigar en IA”, which integrated three research projects on artificial intelligence: Cognitive Robotics, AI for Melody Recognition, and AI against Hate. Through games and activities, the initiative made it accessible to show how these technologies are applied in different fields and can contribute to addressing technological and social challenges.
The Cognitive Robotics project demonstrated how robotic systems can learn and adapt to their environment, highlighting applications such as object recognition for waste classification. Meanwhile, AI for Melody Recognition showcased the possibilities of artificial intelligence in musical analysis, demonstrating its application to recognizing traditional Galician songs. Finally, AI against Hate addressed the use of this technology to analyze content and identify hate speech online.
Ciencia en Acción is an event that promotes scientific and technological dissemination. The San Sebastián edition brought together over 300 participants from different autonomous communities, Portugal, and Ecuador. The next edition will be held in Burgos in 2027.
