The A Coruña Council has initiated improvement works at the San Francisco Convent archaeological site, with an investment of nearly €169,000, to facilitate visits and enhance its protection and conservation.

The intervention focuses on improving accessibility, perimeter fencing, facade treatment, and the installation of supports for interpretive panels at this significant heritage site, which dates back to the city's early beginnings.
The project, with an investment of nearly €169,000, is part of the council's efforts to promote the city's archaeological and heritage elements as part of its cultural and educational offerings. The building, initially constructed outside the city walls, was incorporated into the city's defenses by Philip II.
The works aim to facilitate individual and group visits, ensuring they are compatible with the site's protection and conservation criteria, as well as improving visitors' understanding and interpretation of the archaeological remains.
The project includes extending the stone slab pavement, cleaning and conditioning the facades of the Church of the Third Order and the adjoining wall of the Military Museum, as well as consolidating preserved architectural elements of the former convent's central nave and the wall connecting the church's tower to the Military Museum.
The window grilles on the Military Museum's adjoining wall will also be replaced with metal panels, and the facade will be repaired and painted a uniform dark color to improve the interpretation of the adjacent stone structures. All interventions will adhere to criteria of reversibility, minimal intervention, and low landscape impact.
